Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?

To begin working with us, please book your desired consultation type directly on our website. Questions before booking? Email anna@makosway.com.

What is your training philosophy?

Mako’s Way is dedicated to force-free, positive reinforcement training techniques. We will never use pain, fear, or discomfort to change your dog’s behavior. To learn more, please visit the “about” tab on our website.

How long will training take?

Every dog’s training journey is different. While we will be doing our best to make progress towards your goals, there are many factors that may impact the amount of training your dog needs to reach your desired results. Motivation, client commitment, and the type or severity of your dog’s behavior challenges will all play a role.

Do you train puppies?

YES! We train dogs of all ages. Helping puppies learn to navigate the world with confidence is one of our favorite things to do. We begin training with puppies as young as 8 weeks of age. It’s never too early (or too late) to start!

Why do your credentials matter?

Dog training is an unregulated industry, which means that anybody, regardless of experience or education, can call themselves a trainer. Scary, right? We’re passionate about raising the bar for behavior professionals, and believe that it is our duty to bring you evidence-based, ethical training and counseling. Our Certification in Training and Counseling (CTC) is one of the most respected in the industry.

What “tools” do you use in your training?

Some things we’ll likely use throughout our training together include: tasty treats, longlines, harnesses, treat pouches, clickers, toys, and more! We do not use prong collars, choke chains, shock (or “e”) collars, spray bottles, invisible fences, or other aversive tools.
